Most elephants that come to sanctuary arrive with emotional and physical issues from the past that need to be dealt with in a very individualized and sensitive way. We treat every elephant differently, but there is one thing that is the same – extra special food rewards. These treats are given for even the ‘smallest’ positive behaviors initially. They are welcoming, comforting along with rewarding. These same treats are then used for maintenance care and training throughout their time at the sanctuary.
